Police: Stranger Slapped Crying Child In Wal-Mart

Posted: 6:22 am EDT September 2, 2009Updated: 1:15 pm EDT September 2, 2009

A total stranger is accused of slapping a fussy 2-year-old in a Wal-Mart in Stone Mountain.

Roger Stephens, 61, slapped the young girl several times in the face after warning the mother that he would shut up the crying child up if she couldn't, according to police. Stephens then walked off.

Another shopper stopped Stephens until store security arrived.

Stephens was jailed without bond on several charges including felony cruelty to children.

What a real winner...I hope he never had kids of his own because who knows what he did to them.

OH!  If I was the mother of that child, you would've been dragging me off that guy.  NO ONE lays a hand on my child, least of all some random stranger.  This makes me blood boil!

Wow, I would have been jailed for murder. No doubt. And he would have died by being slapped to death. Something similar happened at an Eastside playdate one time from what I understand also. A stranger went to slap her child and "just happened to slap the IndyMom's kid too". Nope, again, she'd have been bleeding, and I would have been in jail.

My only response would've been:

"and that's when I killed him, your honor."

I would have decked the a$$ if I was that mother! No one touches my child! The nerve! I hope they sentence him to with every applicable law on the books!

What a jerk!!!! Normally I'm one to give people the benefit of the doubt in random stories like this and assume that there MUST be more going on to warrant such insanity.... here though ~ no excuse!!!! Kudos to the "other store shopper" that stepped in and stopped him!!! I've been to Stone Mountain and it really is a BEAUTIFUL area.... guess I need to make a mental note though to avoid Walmart!
